STPM Mathematics (T) — frequently asked questions
What is STPM Mathematics (T)?
STPM Mathematics (T) is the science stream mathematics course for Form 6 students. It covers algebra, functions, coordinate geometry, matrices, calculus (differentiation and integration), differential equations, and statistics including probability distributions. It is one of the hardest components of STPM.
How is STPM Maths T different from SPM Add Maths?
SPM Add Maths introduces calculus and trigonometry at a basic level. STPM Maths T extends calculus significantly (differential equations, parametric differentiation, integration by parts and substitution) and introduces matrices, formal probability theory and statistical inference — none of which appear in SPM.
What is the PBS component for STPM Maths T?
PBS for Maths T involves a group-based project where students collect, analyse and present data using statistical methods from the syllabus. It is marked by the school and moderated externally. It typically runs in Term 3 alongside the statistics content.
