SAT Mathematics — frequently asked questions
What is in the Digital SAT Math section?
The Digital SAT Math section (800 points) covers: Algebra (linear equations, inequalities, systems), Advanced Maths (quadratics, polynomials, exponentials), Problem Solving & Data Analysis (ratios, percentages, statistics, data interpretation), and Geometry & Trigonometry. It is adaptive — Module 1 determines the difficulty of Module 2.
Can I use Desmos in the Digital SAT?
Yes — Desmos graphing calculator is built into the Digital SAT testing platform. This changes strategy significantly — graphing-based solutions are now viable for many algebraic problems. Practise using Desmos in Bluebook (the official Digital SAT platform) before your exam.
What SAT Math score do I need for top universities?
For the most selective US universities (MIT, Harvard, Princeton), a score of 780–800 in SAT Math is competitive. For strong state universities (UMich, UCLA), 700+ is typically within range. International students often score higher in Math than Reading & Writing.
