Mandarin Chinese (All Levels) — frequently asked questions
What HSK levels are there and what do they mean?
HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) has 6 levels: HSK 1 (150 words, absolute beginner) through HSK 6 (5000+ words, near-native). HSK 4 is generally considered intermediate (1200 words) and sufficient for many university Chinese programmes. HSK 5-6 demonstrates business or academic proficiency.
Can a tutor help with IGCSE Chinese?
Yes — Cambridge IGCSE Chinese (First Language 0509 and Second Language 0523) and Edexcel IGCSE Chinese are offered at some Malaysian international schools. Our tutors cover listening, reading, writing and speaking for both qualifications.
Is Mandarin tutoring useful for Malaysian students?
Malaysia has a large Chinese-speaking community and a significant Chinese-medium school system. Many Malaysian students already speak Mandarin conversationally but need structured support for formal written Chinese (particularly essay writing, formal letters and literary analysis) at IGCSE, A-Level or UEC level.
