KSSM & KSSR — Malaysian National Curriculum — frequently asked questions

What is the difference between KSSR and KSSM?
KSSR (Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Rendah) is the Malaysian primary school curriculum for Years 1–6. KSSM (Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Menengah) is the secondary school curriculum for Forms 1–5, leading to SPM. Both were revised and updated from the earlier KBSR/KBSM curricula.
What is UASA?
UASA (Ujian Akhir Sesi Akademik) is the end-of-year school assessment that replaced PT3 as the school-based evaluation for Form 3 students. It is administered by individual schools rather than by the national examination board, and results are used for stream placement into Form 4.
How is KSSM Maths different from IGCSE Maths?
KSSM Maths follows the Malaysian national curriculum and is assessed in SPM. IGCSE Maths follows the Cambridge international curriculum and is assessed externally by Cambridge. The content overlaps significantly at secondary level, but the question styles, assessment format and international portability differ.
