IGCSE English Tutor

What is the difference between IGCSE English First Language (0500) and ESL (0510)?

0500 is for students educated primarily in English — it requires a higher standard of written English and produces grades A*–G. 0510 (Second Language) is for non-native English speakers and tests reading, writing, listening and speaking at a slightly lower standard.

What writing tasks appear in IGCSE English Paper 2?

Paper 2 (0500) requires extended creative writing — students choose from a narrative prompt (story, description) or a discursive prompt (article, letter, speech). The most common mistake is writing too descriptively without developing a clear narrative arc or argument.

Can a tutor help me get an A* in IGCSE English?

A* in IGCSE English requires consistent performance across both papers — particularly in Paper 2 extended writing which is marked holistically. Tutors who regularly mark student writing and provide specific vocabulary-level feedback are the most effective.
