IB MYP — Maths & Sciences — frequently asked questions
What is the IB MYP?
The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) is a 5-year programme for students aged 11–16 (Years 1–5). It precedes the IB Diploma and uses an inquiry-based approach. Assessment is criterion-referenced — students are graded 1–7 on specified criteria for each subject.
How is IB MYP Maths assessed?
MYP Maths is assessed on four criteria: Knowing & Understanding, Investigating Patterns, Communicating, and Applying Maths in Real-Life Contexts. Schools award grades internally; at the end of Year 5, some schools enter students for eAssessment (external exams).
Do tutors help with IB MYP Personal Project?
Yes — the Personal Project is a significant independent piece of work completed in Year 5. Tutors help with identifying a goal, planning, creating and reflecting on the product or outcome.
