IB Mathematics Analysis and Approaches (AA) is the more traditionally pure mathematics course — focusing on algebraic skills, functions, calculus, trigonometry and proof. AA HL includes complex numbers, proof by induction, Maclaurin series and differential equations beyond AA SL.
Who should take IB Maths AA HL?
Students planning to study Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Economics (Oxbridge) or Computer Science at university — particularly at competitive UK or US institutions. AA HL demonstrates mathematical maturity comparable to A-Level Further Mathematics.
Is IB Maths AA HL harder than A-Level Maths?
IB Maths AA HL is generally considered harder than A-Level Maths (single Maths) but slightly less extensive than A-Level Maths + Further Maths combined. The IB Internal Assessment also requires students to conduct an independent mathematical exploration.
What is the IB Maths IA?
